Here is one of the nicest post that shows how to diagnose Daihatsu Mira engine. This is good that not many mechanics outside there do have a diagnostic meter for such an engine. Normally when the engine check light is on which means that there is something wrong of your car's sensors. Most probably these sensors are not working or having problem. Anyway do not panic, we can check which sensors that are giving up their way through the   diagnostic socket.

1.Tool that needed. Short wires.

2. Open up the diagnostic socket which located at the engine bay.

3. Short the wire at the terminal socket.

4. Turn the key to ON position. Then count how many times the engine check light blink. If there is no problem with all the sensors, the engine check light will keep on blinking without pausing while if there is a problem with either one of the sensor, the engine check light will blink then pause and then blink again. This is to show what is the engine error code. For instant, if the engine check light blink 5 times then pause and then blink 2 times again, this indicate that the error code is 52.

    As long as you got the diagnosis tool then you can plug it to the socket to diagnose your error.

  8. Hi, thank you for this very useful tip. I just changed to EF-RL engine and I'm getting error code 51 from the method you showed. I don't really understand what the description meant...is it a problem with the A/C or the idle switch? Or problem with memoryzing?

    Very confused.

  10. Need help. I got L200 (turbo) engine here. Suddenly check engine light appear after hit the gas pedal at 4k rpm. When i pull over and wait for 5 min then the check engine light dissapear. What can cause it??

    I GOT DAIHATSU MIRA EF-JL (L200)SOHC ENGINE WITH TURBO. HOW POSSIBLY I CAN CHECK THE ERROR CODE SINCE THE DIAGNOSTIC SOCKET IN THE ENGINE BAY WASN'T THERE. NEED HELP HERE.

  13. My Mira Turbo 660 EF-JL SOHC.

    About a year i keept in garage (without Batt). because i get a job in other country. I'm back now.
    I bring out from storages my Mira.
    For safety......
    I Changing Engine Oil, Sparks plugs, cleen my radiator, change Brake & Gear Fluid,replace Fuel filter & buy New Battery. Check turbo fan and OK.
    I turn ON key....(can hear 'stright BEEEEEP' sound came from left side under dashboards) I know computer box is there. I turn key OFF.

    Turn ON key again and try to START a few time & Engine is START and i lets the engine to warm up.
    But after 2-3 min. engine slowly gonna stop. Try to START again, but cannot START.
    I OFF switch and wash that car.
    (when Engine is running, that STRAIGHT BEEEP alarm sound is stop)

    Ok....after 20min try START again and yes, Engine is started & running like before...and again slowly Engine is gonna stop again.

    I know there's something not ok.

    I buy a few item and replace it.
    Replaced New item:
    Plugs Cable, Coil, Power Distributer Unit, All Intercooler Hose & Radiator Hose.

    I still having the same problem,
    engine gonna stop after 2-3 min.
    If on the road engine gonna stop around 2km after 3-4min can start Engine again.
    I'm not a automobile mechanic.


    WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ?
    CAN GIVE ME SOME GUIDE OR SOLUTION TO SATTLE MY PROBLEM.

    1. 1. Check your alternator is it charging?
      2. Check idling. TB/Sensor malfunction then to show this symptom

    1-CAR IN GARAGES ABOUT A YEAR. IM BACK ALREADY,TAKE IT OUT TO WASH & BEFOR THAT CHANGE ENGINE OIL, SPARK PLUG, RADIATOR FLUID, BRAKE OIL, BELTING & NEW BATTERY. KEY 'ON' LOOKS LIKE ALL INDICATOR ARE WORKING.AFTER TRY TO START FEW TIMES START...AT LAST THAT SOHC TURBO 12VALVE ENGIN IS RUNNING AND LET ENGINE WARM-UP. BUT HEAR ENGINE JERKIN SOUND FEW TIME BEFORE IT STOP. TRY TO RESTART FEW TIME BUT FAIL. AFTER 30 MIN TRY TO START !!!

    i think you have a failing fuel pump and clogged fuel filter, untouched petrol and staying still for a long time tend to turn the petrol to a bad gas, i believe if you change fuel filter, drain the old fuel and fill it up with new fuel (petrol) it will be fixed.
