Project Kancil: Boost Meter Spoiled

After 2 years of service and abused by me, finally the boost meter had stopped working. So it is time for me to find a replacement for it and now I still wondering which brand suit me the best. Due to the engine and turbo system has left from it original form, there is no necessary for me to get a bigger scale boost meter as the max reading from the turbo pressure will probably read at 0.6 to 0.7 bar. The main concern for me now is to get a reliable yet able to provide me accurate reading. Thus it will definitely not a replica model as before and if possible a mechanical model instead of electrical model.

There are several brands in my mind currently, Apexi, HKS, Pivot, Sard, Omori. Apexi is the only brand I had used before thus do not know how the other brands work. Anyway a new or used is not a problem for me as long as it is reliable and accuracy. Still considering between DIY it or spend some money for installation as I'm quite busy recently due to heavy workload and monitoring my house renovation progress.

Car Modification: All you need to know about Cam Pulleys

Wanted to fine tune your cam and have no idea on what to be done first. Here I compiled some of the information that you may needed in order to get everything done. First of all, you need to know that stock cam pulleys cannot be adjusted. Hence for you to tune your power/torque band, you must need to get an aftermarket adjustable cam pulleys.

However, one might think of why there is a need to adjust the cam pulleys since factory tuned should be the best of all in term of power and reliability. My answer is NO! Different timing is needed for different speed of engine to get the most efficient combustion. The cam pulley can be adjusted to suit the driving style of the driver. The powerband of the engine can be shifted by varying the timing of the valve. After understanding the useful thing provided by adjusting the cam pulley and let's go through how to choose a cam pulley by continue reading...

International Automotive News: Gallardo successor- Cabrera

Finally Lamborgini had decided to replace the long living Gallardo with a new car called the Cabrera. We have seen this ‘Cabrera’ on the net a couple of times, but never really had a clear view of what the final product might look like. But the Cabrera once again hit the tarmac and this time, we are having a better idea of the Bull’s overall look.

Some spy shots during testing on the Nurburgring, the Cabrera seems to be taking the design cues from the Aventador. Aimed to fill the entry-level slot in Lamborghini’s line-up, the Cabrera is said to be equipped with a upgraded version of the current Gallardo 5.2L V10 engine. With the power being pumped up to 600-horsepower, it might bear the LP 600-4 tag.

Like most basic Lamborghinis, all-wheel drive will surely be coming as standard. But the most anticipated change is probably the one done to the car’s mechanical configuration, where the e-gear automated manual might be swapped with a modern seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Car Detailing: 2012 Toyota ViosTRD Sportivo Quick Detail

This car is been with her almost a year and even since she never really take good care of it beside taking it to the car wash. Scratches started to build up all over the car, especially from the car door handle. This might due to finger nail and also the from keys.

Does not have much time for detailing during this holiday hence I only managed to have a quick detailing just to remove those scratches from door handle. Hopefully you guys may bare with me that this is not a full detail or any professional job. This is just to remove those annoying scratches only.

Project Celica: New Shoes!!! New Shoes!!!

It's been a while since I updated something about my car. Thus during this long holiday, I went back to my hometown and tried to fit the new rim I bought earlier to my Celica. Before I made the payment to the rim, I did some studies on what is the best offset and width for Celica but a lot of the information were from the State and most of them running on coilovers and with camber set to fit their rims in. However for me, I prefer to have the camber set close to factory specification and I probably will running on low down spring for a while before I am able to convince myself to get a set of super strut coilover. So this is the reason why I mentioned earlier that I want to try fit the new rim to my car as I'm worry that the offset and the width do not suit Celica.

My rim comes in 2 different specifications. 18x9 ET30 for the front and 18x9 E20 for the rear. Let me explain why 2 different offsets in the first place. As you might not know that the rear of the Celica will sunk a little if running on same offset with the front. So this drive me to get a different offset for the rear to avoid this. By the way, Celica originally run on a set of 16x6.5 ET39 rim all around. Since there is about 2.5 inches increase of width, this make me worry about the rim will hit the inner wall of the wheel well and also the absorber.

Malaysia Automotive News: Proton Preve Hatchback With A Better Rear End Images

At last the long waited Proton P3-22A a.k.a Proton Preve Hatchback was somebody near the Proton Tanjung Malim plant. Previously all those spy shot captured do not really show the actual rear end instead of covering up using some black material. However here are 2 images that clear show the rear and side design of the car.

Its side profile has strong resemblance of Proton MSX concept which displayed years back. Rear design looks nice but its lack of detailing. The images clearly show that there are 4 colors for end users to choose for - metallic blue, metallic black, metallic silver and solid white. However the solid white model will equipped with Preve's sport rim instead of the sport rim shown in the images which it looks more sporty. Let's stay tune when is the official launch date and do give your comment on it.

Celica Club Malaysia: Scammer stealing information from CCM. PLEASE AWARE!!!

Now here is a even worse case that one of the member from Celica Club Malaysia (CCM) car register number being used by a scammer. Hence over here I would like to share out some information and images to show the scammer's car and the owner's car. If you able to locate the scammer please help to make a report to the police.

Project Kancil: Image Is Stolen By Someone... Sigh...

Browsing the local online marketplace the other day and I found out my Kancil's photo is on the car marketplace ads. At first I thought that my car was being sold without my notice and only realized later that a seller used it as his car photo. Seriously I'm very appreciated that the seller picked my Kancil's photo to represent his car but can you please notify me or get permission from me in order to post up my Kancil's photo. Besides that, my photo's watermark was being removed by the seller as well.

To the seller a.k.a  (azahar: ), if you are sincere to sell off your car, please take a photo of your car and post on the ads. Taking other people's car photo is not the correct way to sell off your property. Besides that, please notify me of using my Kancil's photo or as least do not remove the watermark. So I did some further study about the rules of the site, the site stated that it is not allow to use images without others' consent. Obviously this seller is already violate the rules. With no further delay, I already made a report to the admin of the site regarding this. Some might be thinking do I need to take this seriously? Let's agree to disagree. Whatever I did is just to protect myself. Below are my Kancil's photo with the seller's ads and I print screen it as well with my original Kancil's photo. Oh, before I forget, from now onwards I will place the watermark in the middle of my photos.

Project Kancil: Interior update Part 1

From the previous post, you may noticed that I got a set of rim for my project Celica and now I got update for my project Kancil as well.  To cut thing short, I got myself a Daihatsu Mira L5 black trim dashboard a couple weeks ago. To be honest this upgrade may not necessary to most of us but I really can't resists to the price offer for this item.

Thus during this holiday weekend, I got my hand dirty to install the dashboard. Thing went pretty smooth as there is no wiring needed to be worried. I just removed the old grey trim dashboard and replaced it with the black one. I used back the red wording dash meter instead of went for the white wording meter came along with the dashboard. It took me nearly 3 hours to get everything intact but at the end of the day, I felt satisfy with the new interior. So the next thing is to get myself a Daihatsu Mira L5 dashboard tray with cup holder and a set of pillar cover since my Kancil does not have it.

DIY: Apex-i S-AFC and Turbo Timer Air Flow Installation Diagram

Want to fine tune your Daihatsu Mira L500 a.k.a JB-JL engine to improve fuel efficiency and performance? Then the Apex'i S-AFC piggyback ECU is the best budget ECU around the modification scene for you. Here is a little explanation of S-AFC. The A'PEXi Air Flow Converters work by intercepting the signal between the car's air flow meter and the ECU. The Air Flow Meter is the device that tells the ECU how much air is entering the engine so that the ECU can add the correct amount of fuel.

The ECU calculates the proper ratio of fuel to air for a stock, unmodified engine. Certain engine modifications can cause the dynamics of the engine to require more fuel. In this case, there are two common options for modifying the amout of fuel being input into the engine. One can either install larger injectors or increase the fuel pressure to the stock injectors is increased.

Ready to Attack, William's Toyota Celica From Puerto Rico

Toyota Celica is a good styling car for modification and it is very less in Puerto Rico. Here is a 2001 Toyota Celica GTS owe by William. Since there is not many Celica around in Puerto Rico, thus William decided to give this loving machine an aggressive look.

The car now is on black on black scene. Whereby the car is painted to black as well as the wheel too. The car is fitted with TRD bodykit and also a TRD hood scoop. 2014 Audi TT Styling

In an interview given to CarAdvice, Volkswagen Group design chief Walter de Silva said TT's final styling has been approved ahead of the car's arrival next year. It will draw its inspiration from the first-gen model but with a few hints from the current one.

The new TT will be a "combination" and will remain a true TT "but in a different way." It will be different than Audi's current models, especially at the front, while the sides and rear will keep the usual lines. The biggest improvements will be in quality and attention to detail, along with a longer wheelbase. Its chassis will be stiffer and lighter to improve weight distribution and provide better handling. It will use VW's MQB platform with only turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines.

Project Kancil: Cleaning Foglamps With Tooth Paste

Since my L2s bodykit is from the halfcut shop (scrap yard) thus one of the fog lamp is not really in good condition while the other still looking good. The not in good condition means over here is the fog lamp is seriously oxidized. Changing a pair of them will cost me about RM100-200 and it is a challenge to find a set with nice condition. Maybe in the near future, I will change to the projector fog lamp a.k.a mata ketam over here in Malaysia. While waiting this to come true, I could probably clean my covers to remedy this. Yesterday I decided to do something about it.

There are many products you can buy to do this. I am cheap and lazy so I decided to do it another way. This is actually super easy and relatively quick to do. Searching on Google, I found people using toothpaste doing the same thing here and here and here and here and here and here.  So I figured it would be worth a shot.

Honda CB350 Cafe Racer From Israel

Since I'm on the way into bike world, thus I will always read and look into some famous modification around the bike world. Now I found out that recently the modification scene has moved back to the 60s where the cafe racers ruled the bike world back then.

The cafe racer is a motorcycle that has been modified for speed and handling rather than comfort. The bodywork and control layout of a cafe racer typically mimicked the style of a contemporary Grand Prix road racer, featuring an elongated fuel tank, often with dents to allow the rider's knees to grip the tank, low slung racing handlebars, and a single, rearward mounted, humped seat.

Car News: The New Toyota VIOS

After years with the current design, finally Toyota has released a full model change for the Toyota VIOS, which this time will look even more sleek and more powerful than the current version. DMC Tuning Gives Ferrari F12 Berlinetta a Thorough Makeover

Normally owners of a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta will not try to have it modified in any way. However, there are F12 owners out there who have another thought of it and DMC Tuning of Germany promises to offer with its new F12 "Spia" program.

DMC garnish the car with a carbon fiber body kit, which is comprised of a larger front splitter (highly-prone to getting scratched/chipped), new side skirts and a revised rear diffuser. At the back, you will no doubt notice the smoked rear lights, and the boot-lid spoiler, which is reminiscent of that fitted by Ferrari on the 599XX.

Project Kancil: Better Visibility During Night Travel

This is one of my "What to do" for Project Kancil since 2011. You may take a look at my recap here Recapitulation of year 2011. Bought a set of H4 6000K Hi-Low anti glare for my Kancil along side with another 2 sets for my friends. I finally make up my mind to get the HID kit for headlamp instead of fog lamp because I worry that the heat of the HID will melt my fog lamp socket (though HID only outputting 35W).

The price of the HID set is RM175 with postage fee and 1 to 1 exchange claimed by the seller. So hopefully with this warranty will provide some confident to the HID set. However there is a defect for 1 of my friend HID set because one of the bulb is projecting out a blueish color something similar to 8000K color temp while the other is 6000K. Anyway already informed the seller and hopefully can sort out the exchange warranty as soon as possible.

How Much You Need To Own and Maintain A Kancil JB-JL

In my opinion for a guy who really wanted to involve in car modification with low budget, I will always recommend to start with Kei cars. Kei cars in Malaysia consist of Perodua Kancil, Kenari, Kelisa, Suzuki Alto and etc. Perodua Kancil is the most famous among the rest of the Kei cars and in this post I will like to share the cost of owning and maintaining a Perodua Kancil JB-JL.

Based on my experience, modifying a Perodua Kancil with JB-JL engine is not that expensive as expected. The price of the halfcut without bodykit is around RM2.5k-2.8k in Penang while in KL it will be about RM500 lesser compare to Penang price. While with full bodykit, it will cost you roughly RM3k to 3.5k and the price is also RM500 cheaper compare to Penang.  For my case, I opt to get the full bodykit halfcut whereby you can sell off the bodykit parts for around RM500-600 which at the end of the day the price will be the same as of the non bodykit halfcut price. Besides that, you can install the bodykit to your car as well if you like the Mira L5 bodykit design.

Toyota Celica SS-II 722 Street Concept

As a Toyota Celica owner, I will always look for some nice Toyota Celica around the world.  And here is a nicely done up Toyota Celica from Brisbane. To me this is the nicest wide bodykit beside the APR GT300 kit from APR Performance.

Engine wise, the car is not only equipped with the stock 2ZZ-GE but with a IHI turbo boosting 0.5 bar of boost. Beside of the turbo kit, the car performance is now enhanced with a 5kg bottle of nitrous oxide. The original ECU is not fitted with a piggyback DASTEK unichip type Q to provide better fuel and timing management. The exhaust is now modded with a 4-1 head and stainless steel dual muffler.

Honda 2015 Civic Type R to produce 265HP

Honda has released plans to start to testing on their 2015 Civic Type R on the Nürburgring later this year. After years Honda stopped the FD2R production,Honda has confirmed new 2015 Civic Type R "development is progressing well." Honda also revealed the Civic Type R will use technologies adapted from the World Touring Car Championship Civic.

Honda UK Managing Director Dave Hodgetts told Auto Express the car will have at least 265 bhp (198 kW) but engineers are targeting an output of 300 bhp (224 kW). However the engine that will equip to the car is still remains unclear whether is powered by a 1.6L turbocharged engine or a 2.0L engine but recent reports have indicated the latter displacement is more likely. Regardless of final numbers, Honda wants the Civic Type R to claim the front-wheel drive Nürburgring lap record from the Renault Megane RS Trophy which clocked a time of 8 minutes and 7.97 seconds.

ABT Sportsline will release revised GTR aftermarket program for the Audi R8. The focus point this time will be the V10-powered R8 facelift which has a 5.2-liter FSI engine producing 550 HP (404 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft). ABT's engineers can increase the output to 620 HP (456 kW) and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque if more power needed.

McLaren P1 Hybrid Producing 900HP

McLaren swore that the P1 will the next big thing that had come from them. Instead of having a mighty 6.1L V12 engine like the F1, the P1 is still using the 3.8L twin turbocharged V8 engine from the MP4-12C. For starters, McLaren had fiddled with the twin-turbo V8 engine so that it no longer produces 616-horsepower like how one would find in the 12C, but instead will find a 727-horsepower engine powering the car with optimized cooling and durability.

Besides that, they had also followed in the hybrid trend and threw in a lightweight electric motor to provide an extra boost for the P1. With a maximum output of 176-horsepower and 192 lb/ft of torque coming out from it, the P1 has a stratospheric 903-horsepower in its disposal. The electric motor will be mounted directly onto the engine, where the combined power of both electric and gasoline motor will be transferred to the rear wheels through a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission.

Project Celica: Hoping For A New Set of Shoes

First of all, happy Chinese New Year to all that celebrate it and happy holiday for those who not. After a long wait to upgrade my Celica, I plan to have a new set of rim change for it. After considering for more than so many years, there are 2 design of rims wish I wanted to change. One is the rota grid TE37 while the other is the rota fighter CE28. Both definitely need to come with some unusual offset for Toyota Celica.

Unfortunately, Toyota had produced Celica with a stupid lug pattern (to me) which is a PCD 5x100. This is a drawback for those who wish to get some nice rims with low budget in Malaysia. You may order them from Japan but it will cost you a bomb in the wallet. However there are some 17" PCD 5x100 with 9jj and +25 offset selling around the local marketplace website. The price is very attractive and thus making me want to get one as well. However mostly come with 17" but what I do really want is a 18".

Toyota: Patrick Ng's Toyota Corolla TE27

Guys, this car is just amazing. I can't resists to share this out to those old school lover like me. As you may noticed, I got this car as one of my blog slider picture as well. I will not edit a single word here to give credit to the original source - JDMChicago.

Patrick Ng took roughly three years to complete this build. First thing you will notice is the brilliant paint job. After the shell was stripped and minor bodywork completed, Lamborghini Competition Orange was selected to revitalize the original Toyota orange.

The Year 2012 In Review

To reword a famous quote, this has been the best of years and the worst of years. When this year started I had made promises to myself on getting my Project Cars done. However, most of my saving had spent on my wedding and later on my newly born baby boy. Thus, I can say that nothing much that I had done to my cars.
