Project Bike: New Chapter of My Life

First of all, would like to apologize that I have not update anything for the last few months. This is due to my busy work schedule and have not much update on my project cars. In stead of posting some other posts that are not really related to automotive articles, thus I prefer not to post anything until there is something interested.

Besides that, I feel very sorry those my readers who sent me comments and emails. I already tried my best to reply all the comments and emails and if I left out some please do forgive me. By the way, it is a minor update from me where this is not really related to car but definitely related to automotive.

Project Satria: Engine "Popping" Problem

Thing seriously does not work well for me this second half of 2012. My Kancil's boost meter had gave me up and started to provide me inaccurate reading. The second problem is my Satria's engine is giving me weird problem which I cracked my head trying to solve it.

The engine and exhaust kept having "popping" sound, which something similar to those Subaru's boxer engine. At first, I thought it was the ignition cable and spark plug causing the issue. Which causing the engine to miss-fire and one of the piston does not working but this is not the true story. Thus during these holidays, I tried to swap back all my parts to stock parts which included turbo, exhaust manifold, throttle, ignition cables and even the ECU. However with all these changes, the problem still exist.

The New Renault Clio 4

French designers described this car as the first complete "expression" of design renaissance from Renault models. The new Clio is clearly inspired by the concept DeZir. This is seen especially in the front, where the grid "borrows" the same language as the concept image. For the first time on this model we have daytime running lights with LED technology receiving integrated rear door handles. Compared with the version that it replaces, the new Renault Clio has a dynamic air due to a lower ground guards, a greater width, lower front and rear console, and the wheels are pushed over to the outer edge of the wings.

When the car is available for sale, it will offer customers a choice of eight exterior colors, including Flamme Red. Inside, the interior has been seriously improved, according to a press release provided by Renault, quality materials and finishes are far superior to the model that it replaces. With the replacement looming, it is expected that you will find some good Renault Clio finance deals because the older generations will start losing value.

Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro by XXX-Performance

XXX-Performance has presented their own take on the Audi R8 V10 quattro. There is little doubt that this model will surely get you noticed on the road, but it may have gone a little too far with the exterior paint that is accurately identified as bilious green. The model has also been fitted with a set of 20-inch alloy wheels that are styled to match the body's color and are wrapped with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires.

The 5.2-liter V10 unit that resides in the engine bay has been boosted to 650PS (478kW/641hp) with an upgraded air flow system that includes a BMC carbon air-box as well as a high-end sports exhaust system. The tuner car also features an H&R coilover kit and G-Ride Airride system that lowers the models ride height. The interior has been treated to Alcantara and real leather upholstery as well as a set of Audi RS sports seats. Fortunately the XXX-Performance stylists have shied away from extending the extravagant exterior color to the cabin.

DIY: Diagnose Daihatsu Mira Engine Through Diagnose Socket

Here is one of the nicest post that shows how to diagnose Daihatsu Mira engine. This is good that not many mechanics outside there do have a diagnostic meter for such an engine. Normally when the engine check light is on which means that there is something wrong of your car's sensors. Most probably these sensors are not working or having problem. Anyway do not panic, we can check which sensors that are giving up their way through the   diagnostic socket.

Ferrari F70 supercar

The successor for the Ferrari Enzo that finished production in 2004 is probably one of the most anticipated models, and there are sure to be a slew of artists presenting their speculative efforts for the world to evaluate. One such artist is Constantin-Gabriel Radu who has presented this enticing set of images. Pre-production prototypes of the Ferrari Enzo successor have begun appearing on public roads a couple of weeks a go and our spies were lucky enough to grab a few shots.

Power is set to be generated from the F12 Berlinetta's 6.2-liter (6262cc) V12 unit with an output of around 800 PS (588 kW/789 hp). It will be joined by the new F1-derived HY-KERS petrol-electric hybrid system that will bring an additional 120 PS to the table and also give it short distance zero emissions driving. Reports have stated that an unidentified Ferrari model that incorporated the HY-KERS system managed a 0-100kph (0-62mph) time that was 3 seconds quicker than without.

Project Celica: Back In Action Due to Faulty MAF Sensor

Finally I got some spare time for me to write up updates for my Celica. Previous post I did posted a post regarding of the engine stall problem here. Before sending it to the work shop, I did researched around the net what would be the possibility that caused this. A lot information showed that the highest possibility is the fuel pump giving up. However this is wrong. After diagnosed by my mechanic, he told me it caused by a malfunction MAF sensor which could not feed proper air flow to the ECU. After changing it, problem solved! Thank GOD.

However I realized that my car was parked at the car porch for months, it is good for me to service the car as well. Thus I told my mechanic to have a normal routine service so that I will not worry for battery issue or engine oil issue. Anyway, continue to read the post and understand the price list of the parts I have changed. Besides that, there will be some upgrades for my Kancil as well, do stay with me.

Volkswagen with a 2.0L Boxer Engine

If you believe that even with its run-of-the-mill 44bhp 1.3-liter air-cooled engine, the 1970's Volkswagen Beetle is a tough car to handle on the road, then you can only imagine what it would be like to try and control a Bug fitted with the zappy 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine from a Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

To make matters worse, the German dealer who listed the converted Beetle STi on a Romanian car sales website called 'Webcar' doesn’t mention anything about suspension upgrades. The description makes word of numerous engine upgrades along with Porsche-sourced brakes, wheels and other accessories. The Subaru Boxer engine is said to produce 282hp (210kW).

Malaysia Automotive News: Volkswagen’s grand vision for Proton

VW has formed a special team headed by Soh Wei Ming, its operations head for Asia Pacific, to look into the possibility of remodelling the Polo as the national car. VW has done this successfully before when it turned around the Czech Republic’s then loss-making Skoda Auto in the early 1990s. Today, Skoda, which mainly sells compact cars, is a profitable entity with plants in Europe and Asia. Skoda is selling some 879,200 units globally.

The Polo currently costs above RM100,000 but the plan put forward by VW to Proton’s ultimate owner, DRB-HICOM Bhd, would see Polo, produced locally with German technology, priced competitively at below the RM70,000 mark. Early this year, DRB-HICOM struck a deal to buy Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s 42.7 per cent stake in Proton for RM1.29 billion, or RM5.50 per share. DRB-HICOM is expected to pay Khazanah Nasional the outstanding amount for Proton this month and take the national carmaker private. Since DRB-HICOM’s emergence in Proton, some of VW’s top group directors have visited the Proton plant, as well as reviewed all the existing Proton models.

Proton Saga Iswara Station Wagon

From the previous post, I had posted a modified Proton Saga convertible. And now I would like to post up another unique modification based on a Proton Saga Iswara whereby the owner of the car had converted it to a station wagon.Or a Mitsubishi Fiore station wagon converted with a front Proton Iswara. What is station wagon? For those who not familiar with it, here is the definition of station wagon. A station wagon is a body style variant of a sedan/saloon with its roof extended rearward over a shared passenger/cargo volume with access at the back via a third or fifth door, instead of a trunk lid. The body style transforms a standard three-box design into a two-box design—to include an A, B and C-pillar, as well as a D pillar. Station wagons feature flexibility to allow configurations that either favor passenger or cargo volume, e.g., fold-down rear seats.

If this is a Proton Iswara, the owner done a brilliant job to convert his/her car to a station wagon from a normal sedan. It could be useful for those who need extra space for their cars. However, will this able to pass the law enforcement? This will be another story to tell for...

Proton Saga Convertible Limited Edition

What is so call a convertible car? A convertible is a type of automobile in which the roof can retract and fold away having windows which wind-down inside the doors, converting it from an enclosed to an open-air vehicle. Open cars may have a folding roof but only detachable sidescreens which snap-on, they do not convert into a fully enclosed car with proper weather-protection. The wind-up windows make the distinction between an open car and an all-weather car now known as a convertible.

As everyone knows that convertibles are luxury because they are more expensive to build than closed cars, the matching sedans or saloons. However the saga over here is cheaper in term of building it as that is no folding roof attached to it. Besides that, you just need a chainsaw to cut off the roof. You can have it done within a few hours. Anyway, here is a good example of doing it.

Project Kancil: Suspension Upgrade and Lamp Polish

While waiting for some updates from my Celica, let's have a look at what have I done to my Kancil. Previously I had installed a set of lowered spring to it and have not really review the photos which the spring attached. The car lowered more than what the spring advertisement stated (30mm to be exact). It made the car sit lower like around 2 inches (approximately 50mm). Thus, the car now is around an inch clear between the fender and wheel and this is what I want to have in my mind. However, the comfortability of the car decreased and seriously very "bumpy" when driving on uneven road. Anyway, I understand that there is a trade off for looks, handling and comfortability.

Besides that, do polish and clear up the rear bumper's brake lamp. I understand that there is no way to make it looks like new but at least make it look better. Therefore I planned to polish it and clear up all the dirt built inside the lamp. As you can see at the following photos, those dirt I mentioned earlier was mud. This is the end result of not cleaning the car frequently and park it beside of an on going construction site.

Project Celica: On Flatbed Tow Truck

There is a engine stall problem as what I posted earlier here. Finally I got my Celica towed to the workshop to get it fix yesterday. Called the tow truck service and I insisted to get the flatbed tow truck instead of those normal tow truck since I am worry about breaking my bodykit. Sad when looking my car on the tow truck and I really hope the car can be fixed without burning my deep hole in my pocket. Lesson learned from this is don't ever park your car there for months and at least do start the engine and warm it up. Stay tune with me for the update. By the way, I got my car towed for RM150 from Bayan Lepas to Pulau Tikus, Penang. Not pretty sure how much is the market price but at least the price is quite reasonable for me. By the way, if you wish to get the contact for this tow truck company; do drop me a comment of message. While waiting for the update, do enjoy some of the pictures I took during the towing process.

Project Satria: Bumper Spring Lock Installed and Engine Miss Firing Problem

Back to my home town and finally got the bumper spring lock installed. This is help to "stick" the bumper to the chassis in case I run into any pot holea on the road. However here is another bad tragedy for year 2012.As what I previously posted what happen to my Celica here, this is another sad story about my Satria. This happen on 21st Jan 2012 where I already reached my home town and started to inspect my Satria. Tried to start the car, good news! I were able to start it but hold on a second, why the car sound like a boxer engine? Popped up the hood and started to check around, looks like it was having a miss firing some where.

Without any hesitation, drove my car to the nearest mechanic that is available to have it a check. After some inspection, he told me that most probably was the cable plug causing the problem. Thus, I drove all the way to get a set of it and then installed but my Satria still giving me the same problem. I doubt is the distributor giving me this problem. I still have yet send the car to repair since I already back to Penang. So, please stay with me and I will try to update the progress and hopefully it may help those who face the similar problem like me.

Project Celica: Engine Stalled

Things not really going well for me in 2012. The first problem I faced was my Celica having problem just few days before Chinese New Year. Most important is I found out the problem just one day earlier before I had my journey back to my home town.

The problem happen after the first start and rev of my engine. After that, every time I started my Celica, the engine stalled after a few seconds. It revved till 2k rpm and then slowly die off. When I tried to press the fuel pedal, it gave me the feeling that the fuel was not pumping into the engine. Tried to ask around as well as from from US and Celica Club Malaysia, the answers are most probably fuel pump not working as per expected or the fuel filter. Hopefully this is the reason causing it and the repair cost is cheap. Thus, I need a flatbed tow truck now to send my Celica to my mechanic for repair. Sigh...

Toyota Prius GT300 race car

The Toyota GT300 race car was first reported on late last year, at the time we were limited to a few unconfirmed renderings. Now we get a chance to look at the the real thing as it was displayed at the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon.

Team APR are responsible for this particular model and it features the full aerodynamic body kit which leaves it barely recognisable as a Prius. Under the hood , a near 300hp power unit is hiding to put it within the GT300 regulations, a far cry from the 134hp (100 kW / 136 PS) produced by the production model.

Honda unveiled The All New Honda NSX

Honda has unveiled the much anticipated NSX Concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit today. Looking almost identical to Tony Stark's Acura on the film set of The Avengers, Honda of America spokesman Gary Robinson said the vehicle was a, "one-off, fictional car that was made just for the movie and will not be produced."

Regardless, the new NSX concept is a hearty preview of a very real production vehicle which Honda says will launch in the next three years. Remarkably, the NSX will be developed by Honda R&D Americas and manufactured in Ohio for export around the world! Just like the original NSX from the early 1990s, the next-generation supercar will have a mid-mounted V6 engine, make use of lightweight materials and include
