Honda CRX SiR (EF8)

Honda sold the CRX in many markets from 1988 - 1991 but only Japan got the quick and light SiR model. 160ps in such a small and light package was an excellent combination. The CRX is now a classic and many Honda fans value these vehicles for their potential on the track and for their stubby but good looks.

The CRX has a shortened wheelbase and less body than the standard Civic. This makes it lighter and sharper. The vehicle feels nice in transitions if a little understeery. The engine revs very freely and as a Vtec, it sings and performs nicely at the higher RPMs. The low torque of the engine compared to the hp means that it makes power higher in the RPM band. This is fun for spirited driving especially since it comes with a fairly short throw shifter and close ratio tranny. It just asks to be driven hard.

4AGE Formula Atlantic modification parts

Thinking of how to modify your 4AGE and budget is not a concern to you. There are a lot of information around and here is one of a very good information and all the parts that needed to modify a 4AGE to a 240hp Normally-aspirated monster. Normally-aspirated 4AGE variant used in the Toyota Formula Atlantic Series is what we will discuss here. The displacement is still at 1.6L, but they fitted it with a fuel-injection/ignition system by TRD. In full-race trim, you can expect to get 240 beat-you-till-you're-senseless horsepower! At home in a 1,260 lb. race car, 0-60 passes by in 2.8 seconds! 

Quick calculations show that this monster of a motor develops 150 hp per liter. To put it into perspective, if the 5.7L Corvette engine was tuned to the same level of the 4A-GE race motor, it would make around 855 hp! And the F/A motor doesn't even have steel cylinder inserts!

Project Celica: Standalone Upgrade For Celica

Lucky enough to have the chance to purchase the Apexi Power FC for my celica. One of the main reason that I choose Power FC than the other standalone such as Microtech and Haltech is because it is plug and play for Celica. Besides that, from research around the net and information from, the horsepower gain is pretty good with proper tuning. 

The installation is done at one of the shop located in Kepong, KL. The process of the installation did not go well as what we expected. The first problem was the dyno machine cable had some problems but luckily it was solved by just soldered back the wiring. The second problem occurred during the half way of the tuning process. Open up the engine cover, found out that the lift bolt was broken. Managed to get a replacement for it but the power band still decreasing. Couldn't figure out what is the problem and chosen to install back the original ECU so that I can drive back to Penang safely.

How Toyota VVTi works?

In this post, I will like to post out something about Toyota technology VVTi which describe as Variable Valve Timing-intelligent. VVT-i is a way to enhance performance, economy and emissions through control of the phasing, or timing, of an engine’s camshafts.

The valves that admit air-fuel mixture into the engine’s combustion chambers, and that open to allow the burned gasses to be pushed out as exhaust, are controlled by egg-shaped lobes on these camshafts, as you see on the image to the left.

The shape of those lobes, and their positioning on the shaft, determine a cam’s timing. In most cases, cam timing is fixed, and that means that it’s a compromise that provides optimal performance only at the speed at which the engine is likely to do most of its work.

4AGE 20V vaccum location

1. Brake vacuum from side of throttle 1 behind butterfly (big hole)
2. Fuel return to tank (entry) [from regulator]
3. Fuel return to tank (exit) [to fuel tank]
4. Brake vacuum from side of throttle 4 behind butterfly (big hole)
5. Idle Speed Control Valve (ISCV entry)

The brake vacuum is taken from throttle 1 & 4 via a side port. They are summed by a T-joint before connected to the brake servo. Since throttle 4 is far from brake servo hence it is connected to another pipe then to the T-joint (not shown).

DIY: Toyota Celica ZZT23 air cond diagnosis

1. First, turn the key switch from "OFF" position to "ON" position with pushing AUTO and together.

 2. You will noticed that all the LEDs on A/C controller will flash 4 times.

 3. Sensors will be checked, and display shows code. (Please refer to the error code table below)

 4. We can reset the error by this procedure.

A visit to Pasir Panjang, Penang

Pasir Panjang is a lovely stretch of sandy beach on the southwestern coast of Penang island. Formerly, the only way to reach Pasir Panjang was through a dirt track which can be entered using a motorbike or bicycle. Since then, the track has been widened and tarred so that cars and vans can enter as well. 

Since it is a nice place so we went to Balik Pulau yesterday with my lovely girl friend to pay a visit to my colleague and having a short trip to Pasir Panjang Beach. When we reached there, it was about 10am and there are some numbers of people having fun over there. As told by the others, a lot of fishing enthusiasts love the place and that's true after we visited it personally. Nothing much we did there since the sun is getting to shine and the temperature is climbing up to the un-usual degree. Therefore, we quickly snap some photos of the beach and on the way back, we took some photos of Pulau Betong as well.
